Pastor’s Letter – May 11

Pastor’s Letter – May 11

Hi Everyone,

As always, I’m looking forward to being together on Sunday. This Sunday, Mother’s Day, is particularly an occasion where it’s good to remember and celebrate God’s goodness to us in giving us the wonderful gift of mothers.

Occasions like this, however, are also days which can bring up so many mixed emotions for many different reasons. As I have a couple of times in the past, I’ll be praying this Sunday a prayer that I’ve adapted from this gospel coalition resource, which I think does a wonderful job of capturing so much of what’s good as well as what’s hard about Mother’s Day, while also pointing us to God and his goodness.

We’ll also celebrate with some extra morning tea after church and, although we won’t be having a sermon particularly themed towards Mother’s Day, we will find that our next section of the letter of 1 Thessalonians is quite relevant for the day. It speaks particularly about the joy and affection between Paul and the Thessalonian church because of the gospel. Truly we are a church family, and being together should bring us great joy as we remember with thankfulness the gift of belonging to one another.

In Christ,
Matt
