Pastor’s Letter – July 20

Pastor’s Letter – July 20

Hello Church,

We’ve got one more week in our short series from Psalms before we jump into Leviticus next week. I’ve been so encouraged during our time in the Psalms. They’re unusual in scripture as ancient words spoken to God, now provided as God’s word spoken to us today, so that we might in turn make them our words as we speak to God any day. I wonder if there is one thing that has jumped out to you from these last few weeks?

Next Sunday we kick off seven weeks in Leviticus. As I was poking around google for some Leviticus related things, I came across a sermon series with the title “You lost me at Leviticus” Maybe that’s just being honest, because there is a fair chance that some of us feel a bit that way. So you might wonder why we are spending so much time in Leviticus. Well, on the one hand we’re just faithfully making our way through the Old Testament as we learn from the unfolding revelation of God. Last year we finished Exodus so this year we’re into Leviticus. More than just ticking off the next book in the Bible though, I expect that God will surprise us with just how rich and uplifting Leviticus is. If you read ahead in Leviticus you might be concerned that we’re going to get bogged down in the extensive detail. But I want to encourage you that in fact we’re going to have our vision lifted and hearts warmed as we see Jesus with a growing appreciation for his majesty and mercy that will press us forward in living a life worthy of his gospel. Bible study notes for Growth Groups and personal use will be available at the welcome table on Sunday.

I’m also keen to remind you fo a number of upcoming events around church:
