Hello Church,
I’ve had some great chats with people about Leviticus coming out of the passages we looked at last Sunday. We’re going to have lots of curly questions come up as we make our way through this rich and complex book. Along the way, I think it’s helpful to see that Leviticus is not just a book of rules. This is more than just legislation, it’s education. What I mean is that through Leviticus God’s purpose is much bigger than just giving a bunch of rules to follow. His purpose is to shape his people’s understanding of what it means to be his people. To reveal more of his character, and in turn shape our character. To show us more of his view of the world and help shape our view of the world. And this is just as true of us as Christians as it was for the Old Testament believer. As Apostle Paul summed up in Romans 15:4 “Everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.” Maybe that’d be a good thing to talk about over coffee on Sunday: how have you been encouraged in hope by what we have just heard?
Let’s keep learning from God’s word together!
Cheers,
Simon
