Pastor’s Letter – May 19

Pastor’s Letter – May 19

G’day Church,

It’s great to be back on deck after a couple of weeks of leave to refresh. And I gather it’s been a really encouraging couple of Sundays at church, hearing about the work that God is doing in bringing people to Jesus on our university campuses and across rural Australia. Well, it’s no accident that this Sunday we’ll be broadening our horizons even further to consider God’s global purposes, because it’s Pentecost Sunday when we celebrate the coming of the Spirit to glorify the Son in every nation, tribe and tongue. It’s always amazed me that a bunch of timid, small-town disciples bunkered down in Jerusalem could end up taking the gospel to the world. But that’s what the Holy Spirit does when he gets into us: he grips us with the goodness of life with Jesus and takes us out to make him known. I’m looking forward to having returned missionary and CMS Mobilisation Officer Tamie Davis with us this Sunday to explore some of this together.

A few other things to let you know about:

  • This Friday our Youth get together for the first local evening of the term. Any high school youth are welcome. More info here, or contact Matt.winter@trinity.church Let’s be praying for a great term ahead for the group!
  • This Saturday I’m heading along to a working bee at Seacliff Presbyterian Church from 12:00-4:00pm and I’d love you to join me as we seek to bless a like-minded gospel community in the neighbourhood who want to make disciples of Jesus. We can chip in with some gardening, cleaning, painting and general repairs. As a larger church this is a great chance for us to help out a smaller community that are looking to rebuild under new leadership. Email me at simon.marshman@trinity.church if you would like more details.
  • Our partners at Engage Work Faith have a great event on Thursday May 30 for anyone who feels like they’re in need of some rest. This is will be an excellent invite for colleagues and friends who don’t know Jesus but are open to hearing some of his wisdom. More info on our website.
  • The annual Firm Foundation Marriage Enrichment weekend is being run on June 14-15 at Trinity Church Adelaide. This is an excellent time of input and encouragement for any couples who have been married at least 2 years. More info on our website.
