Pastor’s Letter – February 20th

Dear Friends,

I don’t know about you, but it feels to me like lots is going on around our church community at the moment.

Thinking about it, we’re in a period where we’re between senior pastors, which is big. We’ve all been affected in different ways by the COVID chaos of the past couple of months (I counted and we had over 20 who were away with COVID on Sunday or close contacts), also big. We’ve just said goodbye to some beloved members of our community as they head off to be part of a new church in Tonsley. We’ve also of course all been hit hard by the sadness of losing Rob last week and the grief that comes with that.

At the same time though, (again I don’t know about you and I expect plenty of us aren’t in the same headspace as me), surprisingly I’m feeling very encouraged. I think it’s down to things like the way our community has rallied around each other and been serving one another. I think also of the way in which we keep seeing newcomers and visitors on Sundays. I think of those who haven’t been able to be with us much this year with COVID related things and the way they’ve still been encouraging from a distance. And I think partly I’m just encouraged by the way in which we’ve been keeping things nice and simple on Sundays and the positive vibe that that’s created.

Of course you don’t have to be in the same headspace as me, but I’m really excited to see what this next phase will look like. As we (hopefully) come out of COVID, as we reset things a bit, and as we welcome Simon and his family into our community, I’m confident that God will keep using us in great ways as we seek to reach our local community and together engage with Jesus and his teachings.

Hope to see you Sunday,

In Christ,
Matt
