Hi Everyone,
This Sunday we’re looking forward to the final of Matt Lehmann’s sermons in the book of 1 Thessalonians. I’ve appreciated the way that Matt has taken the letter and applied it to our church. He’s asked us questions like, do we want to be a church that’s ambitious for the gospel? Will we be a church that holds fast to the teaching of Jesus? Will we look to the joy of serving Jesus? And will we trust that what Jesus offers is much better than the alternative that the world offers?
1 Thessalonians finishes with a section around the return of Jesus and the hope that we have in light of that. I’m praying it’ll be a helpful finish to the series.
We’re also going to be joined by K from CMS. She’s preparing to head back to the mission field in June and this will be her last visit to us before then. We’ll be hearing from her early in our service about what it means to be living in a totally different culture, which will be both interesting but also helpful for us – we all do life in different subcultures and so being able to pay attention to culture is a useful skill as we think about sharing the reason we have for hope in Jesus.
Next week there’s one additional opportunity to hear from K. We’re gathering together our three Wednesday night growth groups at the Holdfast Bay Community Centre for an extended night of hearing about what she’s been doing. If you’d like to join those groups you’re most welcome to, just let me know. We’ll be meeting from 7:30-9pm in the room where we normally run Minis on a Sunday.
Looking forward to being together again this weekend,
Matt
