Pastor’s Letter – March 28th

Dear friends

We have a great privilege this weekend to have one our alumni (a fancy word that means Jamie used to be a member of our church) back with us. Jamie Seyfang, now one of the Associate Pastors at Trinity Church Colonel Light Gardens will preaching for us. I emailed him a few questions so we could get to know him a bit better…

• For those who don’t know you (well), can you give us a brief bio?

I have been married to Aiesha for 6 years, and we have a 10 month old son named Ari. We’ve just returned from 4 years living in Sydney where I had a great time studying at Moore Theological College. I’m now serving as one of the pastors at Trinity Church Colonel Light Gardens. Aiesha and I love going for beach walks and playing music – mostly nursery rhymes these days! Trinity Church Brighton is a huge part of both of our backstories.

• What are one or two things that you are thankful for from your time at Trinity Church Brighton?

When Brighton was planted in 2006, I was a teenager who had wandered from God. My parents were part of the starter team and took the opportunity to nudge me back towards church. In his kindness, God used people from Brighton to welcome me, answer my questions and help me understand the gospel. So I will always thank God for that.

I am also very grateful for the way people at Trinity Church Brighton challenged me to have a go at serving God in different ways: from leading the singing for the first time, to preparing my first Bible study for young adults, to preaching my first sermon. In God’s kindness, it is because of the prayers, encouragement and financial support of many at Brighton that I went into a Ministry Apprenticeship and then to College for further training.

• What is God teaching you at the moment?

One of the big things I’ve been wrestling with lately is learning to care more about God’s opinion of me than that of others. This has been especially challenging as I’ve been starting a new role! Though I’m a people-pleaser by nature, God has been teaching me slowly but surely to find more joy in knowing that I am his beloved child and to worry less about what people think of me.

• What are you excited about?

Shameless plug – I am excited about the upcoming combined youth camp in the April holidays for Trinity Church Colonel Light Gardens, Unley, Woodcroft and Brighton! It’s exciting to have a chance to invest in a bunch of young people and their relationship with Jesus, especially since this was such a crucial time for my own faith.
