Pastor’s Letter – July 10th

Dear Friends,

How’s your week been? In the Winter household we’ve been stuck at home this week with COVID. Annika tested positive on Saturday, and the rest of us were positive by Tuesday. We’ve got lots to be thankful for though – so far we’ve all had quite mild cases, and we’re making the most of hunkering down at home by watching movies and eating some extra tasty food. We’re also due to head off on holidays next Wednesday, and so we were very thankful that all our positve tests came in time to go on our holiday without having to change plans.

It’s a shame, though, that between missing two Sundays with COVID, and a third with holidays, we’ll miss three weeks of church in a row! (Again though, we’re thankful that this didn’t happen back in term 1 before Simon was with us – would have been tricky). The other disappointment is that I won’t be able to go down to the Redefinition Youth Camp (Redef) that’s happening in Victor Harbor this weekend and early next week.

Redef is a brilliant camp for high schoolers from across our city. It runs from Friday to Tuesday and is full of great Bible teaching, fun and games, making good friendships and is one of those weeks that can be huge in someone’s faith journey. I’ve been a couple of times now and a memory that sticks out clearly for me is the last night of camp where a mic is setup and youth have a chance to get up and speak to the crowd about what they’ve learnt and what God’s been teaching them during the week. It’s always a time full of amazing testimonies to how God’s working amongst these young people.

Can I encourage you to remember Redef in your prayers over the next week? You can pray for each of the 130ish youth who’ll be attending, and do particularly remember the 3 youth from our church who are going. It’d be good to pray too for this year’s speakers – Ada and Tiana. They’re speaking from the book of Lamentations, which isn’t necessarily an easy task! And of course in times like this it would be great to pray that sickness and COVID don’t cause too much disruption or complexity.

I’m looking forward to hearing how camp goes!

Matt
