Dear Church,
This Sunday we’re continuing our way through Colossians. As we come to chapter 4, we read of Paul’s great desire to see the gospel spread. He asks the Colossians to pray for opportunities for him to keep speaking the good news and encourages them to take the opportunities they have to speak the good news too. It’s a great picture of gospel partnership in prayer and encouragement. So it’s tremendous that this Sunday we’ll be hearing about the great work that God is doing through Evangelical Students (ES) at Flinders Uni. Many of us know of Lauren Hull’s ministry with ES, so we can look forward to an update from Lauren, as well as hearing from Mike Waskiel, the ES Campus Director at Flinders. As we hear of the spread of the gospel through ES, can I encourage you to consider two things in particular:
1. How might we learn from what ES are doing?
ES are all about equipping students to be confident in the gospel so that they might make the most of every opportunity to talk with their classmates and friends about Jesus. Just as we pray for their ministry on campus, let’s also consider how God might open doors for us to speak of Jesus in our own context too.
2. Could you partner financially with ES?
ES workers like Lauren and Mike are dependent on the generosity of God’s people to be able to do what they do. As a church, we don’t have a budget line for supporting ES or other partner organisations. Rather we want to encourage our members to be generous in lots of different directions. Peta and I have supported ES workers ever since we were at uni many years ago and it is a tremendous privilege to hear of the many ways that God is bringing students to faith in Jesus. I’d love to encourage you to consider the joy of partnership in this great ministry too. For more information, speak to Lauren or Mike on Sunday, or check out https://www.flinders.es.org.au/
See you on Sunday.
Cheers,
Simon
